12 p.m.  Dr. Ninfa Candela and Dr. Randall Pellish:  Crohn's & Colitis in Kids and Adults 

Ninfa Candela graduated from Saint George's University School of Medicine in West Indies, and was a resident at The Winthrop University Hospital. She is Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. Dr. Candela has a long-standing interest in developing as a clinical researcher in the field of Pediatrics Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (IBD), specifically in the efforts to explore the psychological aspects of IBD. Ninfa serves on the medical advisory board for the New England Chapter of the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation and is an active member of NASPGHAN and the AGA.

Randall Pellish is a graduate of UMass Medical School and completed his post-graduate training in internal medicine and gastroenterology at Brown Medical School.  He is an assistant professor of medicine in the Division of Gastroenterology at the University of Massachusetts Medical School and UMass/Memorial Medical Center and the associate program director for the gastroenterology fellowship training program.  Both his clinical and research activities focus on the evaluation and treatment of patients with inflammatory bowel disease including Crohn's disease and ulcerativecolitis.  

1 p.m.  Dr. Jodi Hoffman:  All in the Family: Tracking Down Genetic Disease

Jodi D. Hoffman, received her medical degree at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the Bronx, completed a Pediatric residency at Yale Children’s Hospital in New Haven, and attained her training in Medical Genetics at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. She is an Interim-Chief and Associate Professor of Pediatrics in the Division of Genetics at Tufts Medical Center and the Director of the Victor Outreach and Screening Program for Jewish Genetic Diseases.  Dr. Hoffman practices as a general medical geneticist and provides counseling and diagnosis regarding prenatal care, neonates, children, and adults with genetic conditions.  

2 p.m.  Dr. Elena Salmoraigo:  Lovesick:  Dying of a Broken Heart?

Elena Salmoirago-Blotcher, received her MD from the University of Milan, Italy. She is board certified in cardiology in Italy where she worked as a clinical cardiologist for nearly 15 years. In 2010 she received a PhD in Epidemiology from the University of Massachusetts Medical School where she is now an Assistant Professor in the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine. In 2009, she received a Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award for post-doctoral training in complementary and alternative medicine to study the feasibility and preliminary efficacy of a phone-delivered mindfulness intervention for treatment of psychological distress in patients with implantable cardio-verter defibrillators.

3 p.m.  Dr. Debra Twehous:  Head Injury and Sports:  A New Epidemic? 

Debra Twehous earned her medical degree and completed an internship in Internal Medicine at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio; she completed her residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of California at Irvine. An assistant professor in the Department of Orthopedics and Physical Medicine at the University of Massachusetts Medical School in Worcester, she was appointed Fairlawn Rehabilitation Hospital’s Director of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation in 2012. She previously served as Medical Director of various rehabilitation programs at several rehabilitation facilities, including Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital in Boston, MA, the Burbank Rehabilitation Center in Fitchburg, MA, Farnum Rehabilitation Center at the Cheshire Medical Center in Keene, NH, and the VA Medical Center in Long Beach, CA.

4 p.m.  Dr. Marjorie Safran:  Make No Bones About It:  Osteoporosis and You 

Marjorie Safran is a graduate of Downstate Medical School, Brooklyn, NY. She completed an internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Montifiore Hospital, Bronx, NY and Boston City Hospital. After a fellowship in endocrinology at University of Massachusetts Medical School, she has remained on faculty there and is active in teaching and patient care. Her research interests have been in the area of thyroid hormone action and thyroid cancer. She is currently Ambulatory Physician Leader in Endocrinology at the University Campus of U MASS Memorial Medical Center. in teaching and patient care. Her research interests have been in the area of thyroid hormone action and thyroid cancer. She is currently Ambulatory Physician Leader in Endocrinology at the University Campus of U MASS Memorial Medical Center.
10 a.m.  Dr. Stuart H. Bentkover:  Looking Better and Younger:  Safe Surgical and Non-Surgical Choices of the Face

Dr. Bentkover began practice in Central Massachusetts in 1979, after residency training at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary in Boston. A graduate of Princeton University and The Mount Sinai School of Medicine, Dr. Bentkover is on the faculties of the Harvard and UMass Medical Schools. He is Board Certified by the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and the American Board of Otolaryngology (Ear, Nose and Throat). Facial Plastic Surgery requires a commitment to art, excellence, and innovation.
JoAnne M. Foody, MD, FACC, FAHA, is the Director of the Cardiovascular Wellness Center at Brigham and Women’s / Faulkner Hospitals as well as Medical Director of the Pollin Cardiovascular Wellness Program form Women. Dr. Foody is an Associate Professor of Medicine, and Cardiovascular Medicine at Harvard Medical School and Director of the Cardiovascular Wellness Center at Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospitals. Dr. Foody received her BA from Princeton University in 1986, and her MD from the University of Chicago, Pritzker School of Medicine in 1990.
